The First Mercedes New-Design Store in North America to open in Toronto
The new facility is being constructed at The Queensway and The East Mall, with easy access to Highway 427.
Mercedes-Benz has just announced breaking ground on a new dealership. Not just a new store, but a new concept for the design of the brand’s showrooms. One it says marks a big change in how the company approaches retail across the globe.
Mercedes-Benz Canada President and CEO Brian D. Fulton was at the groundbreaking. Along with Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore city councillor Mark Grimes. The 95,900 square-foot facility will be built to the company’s new MAR 2020 design standards. The first stores under the new concept were opened in Hong Kong, Beijing, Budapest, and Istanbul. But the Toronto store will be the first of the new design in North America. It includes not just the designs of the exterior of the building, which see a new style with more glass and a curved roofline, but also the interior.
Inside, the stores will have designs intended to help the customer lead every interaction. There are shared-use spaces like lounges and bar areas for customers who prefer a more open and less intimidating space instead of the typical salesperson desk, office, or cubical. Digital assets like screens and tablets will help staff and customers to better engage with the product.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to be marking the start of construction for the new Mercedes-Benz Etobicoke dealership.” said Fulton. “This outstanding addition to our Toronto Retail Group is sure to set the bar for dealership design as well as service. We’re thrilled to be expanding our footprint at this location and can’t wait to welcome in new and existing customers for a truly first class brand experience.”
“When companies like Mercedes-Benz recognize the opportunity of growing their business in our community, it helps to solidify Etobicoke-Lakeshore’s status as a premier employment destination in the City of Toronto and to reinforce our community’s continued economic prosperity.”said Councillor Grimes.
The new facility is being constructed at The Queensway and The East Mall, with easy access to Highway 427. It will have three dedicated showrooms on-site. One for Mercedes-Benz, one for Mercedes-AMG products, and one for the Mercedes Vans, each with a feel designed to be unique and appropriate to the individual brand. The new facility will also have at least 22 EV charging stations. 20 Level 2 and two Level 3 chargers planned. That’s along with 37 service bays.
