I am probably not telling you anything new when I say that customers who are thinking about buying a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 probably aren't worried about paying rent at the end of the month. However, a quick survey commissioned by VW (owner of Bugatti, among others) reveals some unbelievable numbers.

According to this research, the average Bentley owner owns 8 other cars, which puts them in a very select club that also includes royalty, rich oligarchs and Fortune 500 CEOs.

The average Bugatti owner is a cut above, however: apart from their Veyron, they already have 84 cars, 3 jets and even a yacht.

That means that they probably won’t be using their 1200 horsepower-supercar to get groceries. A quick search reveals that many 6 year old Bugattis don’t even show 5,000 kilometres on the odometer.

If you were looking for the perfect addition to your museum-worthy collection of cars, Bugatti wants you to know that there are only 20 cars remaining; after the last one is sold, they will be focusing on building the Bugatti Veyron's replacement.

VW Working on Next-Gen Bugatti Despite Losing $6M per Vehicle

Bugatti Veyron production is wrapping up and there are less than 20 unsold units from the current model’s production run of 450 units. The starting price for these cars was $1.85 million US.

According to a report by Bloomberg, even at that exorbitant price VW Group lost nearly $6 million per Bugatti sold once all the development costs are factored in.

VW created the Bugatti for the prestige involved in manufacturing the world’s fastest car. But was that investment worth it when the vast majority of people don’t even realize that Bugattis are made by VW?

VW seems to think so because it plans to release another generation of Bugatti with perhaps 25% more power than the current 1200 horses. You’ll probably see some sort of hybrid electric powertrain to help boost output. We’ll know more about the new model sometime next year.
