Porsche Macan Gets New Midgrade Performance Option
Standard, the GTS can hit 100 km/h from a stop in 4.7 seconds
Porsche has brought back the middle of the range Macan for the summer of 2020. The GTS slots in between the full-on Turbo and the lesser S and base versions, in both price and performance.
GTS, for Porsche, usually means a bit of a performance bargain. Plenty of the good go-fast bits, but without all the money of either the higher-spec model or adding them piecemeal to a lower-trim car. The Macan GTS doesn’t change that, adding some of the best Macan performance parts but also bringing some new ones to the equation.
It starts with a slightly detuned version of the 2.9L twin-turbo V6 in the turbo model. Where that one makes 434 hp and lb-ft of 375 lb-ft of torque, the GTS gets 375 hp and 383 lb-ft. That’s 15 hp more than the last GTS and 27 more than the Macan S. Like its siblings there’s all-wheel drive and a PDK gearbox. Standard, the GTS can hit 100 km/h from a stop in 4.7 seconds, and if you fit the still-optional Sport Chrono package you can trim 0.2 seconds from that time.
The GTS is aimed at being the driver’s version of the Macan, and so it comes with Porsche’s air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management as standard. That’s the automaker’s continuously adjustable damping suspension that changes the dampers based on the road and your driving style. The system gets special tuning for the GTS, and the chassis has been lowered by 25 mm to improve vehicle dynamics.
Lurking inside the 20-inch RS Spyder design wheels are 360 mm front brakes and 330 mm rear discs. For more stopping power, Porsche’s surface coated brakes are on the options list, or go full-out and get the ceramic composite versions. When you’re not stopping, Porsche has fitted a sports exhaust system that’s unique to the GTS to let you hear the V6.
Inside, the GTS gets its own set of sports seats with eight-way adjustment and beefy bolsters. They’re finished in Carmine Red or Crayon with Alcantara inserts in other colours available. There’s also extra Alcantara trim on the center console and door panels.
On the outside, the Sport Design package is standard and comes with new trim front and rear including new side skirts and a range of black-painted trim and accents.
The new Macan GTS order books are now open, with deliveries set to start next summer. Pricing for the GTS starts from $77,100.
