When you?re on the road, you never know when an emergency situation can occur. This is why there are some things you should always have with you in your vehicle in case the unexpected happens.

When you?re driving, whether that?s commuting, on a road trip or just running errands, you should always be prepared in case of bad weather conditions, traffic due to an accident or road repairs, if you run out of gas or if your car breaks down and you are stuck on the side of the road.

The most important thing you should have is an emergency kit that contains different things for all weather conditions of type of emergencies. In the winter months, your kit should include a shovel, scraper and snowbrush, warm blankets and extra shoes, clothes and boots.

As well as the above mentioned things, what you should also have at all times are a flashlight that is wind-up powered, not battery powered, roadmaps, a candle in a can, matches, a car phone charger (if you still have power) and a whistle or some other thing that could draw attention to you if you need it.

And, don?t forget food items that include long-lasting, non-perishable items, such as granola bars, nuts and other packaged foods, as well as bottled water, which is an essential.

In terms of things particularly for your car, you should always have windshield fluid and antifreeze, a tow rope, jumper cables in case you need a boost, sand or salt in case you find yourself stuck, a fire extinguisher and a warning light or road flares. You should also have a spare tire and the number for roadside assistance or a tow truck handy.

You can never be too prepared for the unexpected, so having these things in your vehicle at all times will help ensure you get back on the road quickly and home safely.
