Mazda Prices 2020 MX-5 With New Colours, New Red Interior
A slight price hike brings the best-selling two-seat sports car in the world to a starting price of $33,100.
For 2020, Mazda’s MX-5 roadster is getting new colours, new alloys, and a slight price hike, bringing the best-selling two-seat sports car in the world to a starting price of $33,100.
Last year the Miata – sorry Mazda, but MX-5 just doesn’t roll off the tongue the right way – got an engine upgrade that boosted the 2.0L naturally aspirated four to 181 hp at a delightful 7,000 rpm along with 151 lb-ft of torque. This year, Mazda has added 17-inch black alloy wheels to the base GS model in place of last year’s 16s. A move that may impact the ride, but also makes finding performance tires a simpler task. Mazda has also given the GS a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob (and the parking brake handle). Since these two items are the most important part of this car, that’s a welcome change that should make driver fingertips happy.
Also new this year is a Polymetal Grey paint finish. Despite the name, it’s a pale blue paint that really helps make the MX-5’s curves pop. It’ll also come with a new grey soft-top option for GT models.
Like last year, manual gearbox GS-P models get a limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein dampers, a front shock tower brace, and sport suspension. A sport package adds Brembo front brakes, BBS alloys, and Recaro sport seats. All GS-P cars get heated seats, an acoustic windshield, and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. For 2020, Mazda says that navigation is an additional feature for GT, which suggests it’s been removed from the GS-P model.
On top of the new grey roof for GT-trim roadsters is a red Nappa leather interior option that should definitely brighten the car up inside. The GT can get a brown roof as well if that’s your preferred colour. The GT also gets black and stainless steel door sill trim and SiriusXM Traffic Plus with a five-year complimentary subscription.
As with last year, the RF retractable hardtop is available in GS-P and GT trims, equipped the same as the roadster. The RF GT offers an Exclusive package with Nappa leather and piano black roof or a Grand Sport package that includes those features and adds BBS alloys, black mirrors, and Brembo front brakes with red calipers.
