Today’s first video begins with a rather normal scene from a roadside traffic camera, as a British police officer pulls over an motorist for a burnt-out headlight. Things soon get weird, however, as a pack of wolves makes its way onto the highway and heads for the bobby. Scared out of his wits, the quick-thinking officer hops into the back seat of the car he has just stopped.
The videos that I share here each day are usually real, but occasionally they are staged. This one apparently first surfaced in 2010 as part of a European vodka commercial, although I can’t find the actual ad. So maybe it really happened … or the wolves ate it.
Move along. Nothing to see here.
Occasionally I come across a video that just doesn’t seem to have a back story but I have to share it anyway. This 17 second clip shows an old man casually having a smoke, as a rally car rolls past him rather violently. Rather than make a move to see if the crew are ok, he just turns back to the road and keeps smoking.
Sit down, shut up and hold on
There have been all sorts of stories over the years about photographers and other drivers getting a ride along on top of a race car over the years, but few have happened in recent years as safety becomes the rule around race tracks. I just came across this cool video of Mark Donohue Reunion organizer Paul Powell going for a ride in the legendary Porsche 917-30 at Road America. Powell was quite literally zip-tied to the side panel as the late Matt Drendel, founder of Heritage Motorwerks and owner of the car, took him for a blast around the track. At one point, a blast of the throttle sends them hurtling towards 300 km/h!
CD takes a snow day with the Jaguar F-Type
There was a time when a British roadster couldn’t go out in the snow for fear that some body panel would instantly turn to rust and fall off. Those days are gone, and the spectacular F-Type is a real world car that also happens to be a whole bunch of fun to drive, even in the Winter. Perhaps even more in the Winter as you can see from the following clip from the gang at Car and Driver, who had a bit of top down motoring recently in their tester.
Drifting a parking garage ramp
I don’t think there is a driving enthusiast alive who hasn’t traveled up or down one of those multi-floor parking garage circular ramp and wondered just how much fun it might be to drift around the entire ramp. This bit of raw footage from a short film called The Ugly Duckling will give you a pretty good idea of just how cool it would be.
norbefilms tells Jalopnik that this was performed on a closed location and with proper lead and follow cars. In other words, these guys are pros and did it the right way. As Los Jalops point out, for the love of everything, do not try this yourself. Do not be THAT GUY.
And here is the full flick.
