Dodge flexes its Muscle in New York
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is highly capable on the street while absolutely dominating at the drag strip.
NEW YORK, NY: While most of the manufacturers at the New York International Auto Show were showcasing their green and eco friendly technology, Dodge was taking the opposite approach and demonstrating pure muscle and power with the introduction of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
The Brampton built SRT Demon is fitted with the same 6.2-litre Hemi V8 that is in the Hellcat. But the engineers have worked their magic and managed to increase the horsepower to a phenomenal 840 hp and a mind-blowing 770 lb/ft of torque.
The engine is married to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and driveline that has been specifically engineered to handle the additional torque output
This is the highest horsepower V8 engine ever produced. It can get to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and does the quarter mile in 9.56 seconds at a speed of 225 km/h. This has been verified by the NHRA, which incidentally, banned the Demon for being just too fast!
It is so fast, that at launch, it registers the highest g-force ever recorded in a production car at 1.8g.
The Demon is also the first production car to lift the front wheels at launch (up to 89 cm).
The Demon introduces an impressive list of street-legal car industry firsts that includes, factory-installed wider, Nitto street-legal drag radials for improved grip and TransBrake locks the output shaft of the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission to hold the car before launch, allowing the driver to increase engine rpm for higher torque and quicker response.
The Drag Mode suspension tuning maximizes weight transfer to the rear wheels for better traction. The wide-body exterior styling, with concealed wheel well attachments, house Challenger SRT Demon’s massively wide 315/40R18 tires.
The Demon is equipped with three Drive Modes – Auto (street) Mode, Drag Mode and Custom Mode. Nearly every combination of options available in Auto (Street) or Drag can be configured in the Custom Mode.
For example, a driver could select the elements of Drag Mode related to engine and transmission performance, but could select Sport Mode for the suspension and steering, providing the on-road driving dynamics of a Challenger SRT Hellcat
Dodge is referring to 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon as highly capable on the street, absolutely dominating at the drag strip.
To top it all, the Demon is covered by FCA US LLC factory warranty, including three-year/36,000-mile limited vehicle warranty and five-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain coverage.
All customers who buy new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon receive one full-day session at Bob Bondurant School of High-performance Driving.
Production begins later this summer in a very limited numbers (3,000 United States/300 Canada) and will be available in SRT dealers in the fall.
