Here are our top five most fuel efficient cars at this year’s show:

1.VW GOLF TDI CLEAN DIESEL

Cars don’t have to be all-electric or a hybrid to get amazing mileage. Or to be considered “green.”

Just take a look at the 7th generation VW Golf TDI. This clean burning diesel can get upwards of 1,000km on one tank – depending on how you drive – and its 2.0L, 4-cylinder engine gives you 150 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.

And with a 5-door configuration, you can get yourself and your passengers in and out of it with ease.

Furthermore, 2015 will bring a Sport Wagon variant to the TDI fold. That’s something to get excited about.

2.TOYOTA i-ROAD CONCEPT

Addressing the issues of urban commuting, the i-Road concept gives you a zero-emissions drive, and also a compact body that takes up less than half of a regular-sized parking space.

It has a range of up to 50km per charge and a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

3.HYUNDAI TUCSON FUEL CELL ELECTRIC VEHICLE

This Hyundai Tucson is cut from a different cloth. Why? Because it’s powered by hydrogen gas.

It’s also the first, mass-produced Fuel Cell vehicle to be available to the Canadian public.

The Hyundai Tucson FCEV takes less than 5 minutes to refuel and has an estimated range of 426 kilometres, and its only exhaust is pure water vapor.

4. CHEVROLET BOLT EV CONCEPT

For EV enthusiast or those looking for a potential new vehicle, Chevrolet expands their electrifying portfolio with their Bolt EV Concept.

With a range of over 300 kilometres, this all-electric stylish crossover is aimed for the masses, not just the select few.

While it’s still a concept, pricing for this type of vehicle will be in the $30,000 range. That’s not necessarily cheap, but certainly attainable, and has a range a lot more people will be excited about.

5. TESLA MODEL S

The Tesla Model S is not new news, however, the addition of the P85D – D which stands for dual motors – means it’s now available with an all-wheel drive system.

The 100 percent electric car has room for up to 7 passengers and has a very cool 17-inch touchscreen embedded in its centre stack.

Not only does it look good, but is beautiful to drive.
