The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada announced today it had selected the sporty Volkswagen Golf GTI as the country’s best car following extensive testing of dozens of model entries.
The GTI topped the two other finalists, the BMW 335d sedan and the Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI, for the award in voting by association members.
In other voting, the association picked the Subaru Outback as Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year over other finalists, the Lexus RX450h and the Volkswagen Touareg TDI clean diesel model.
Other award winners included the BMW 335d sedan for best new design; Ford’s new MyKey for best new technology and the automaker’s next generation gas-electric hybrid system for best green technology.
