Wheels wins big at AJAC awards

We all know that Toronto Star Wheels is Canada's best automotive publication, but it's now been officially recognized as such, for the second consecutive year, by the Automobile Journalists' Association of Canada.

Wheels was awarded the "Best Print Publication" award, recognizing design and layout and sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors, at the AJAC ceremony held Wednesday.

The award was accepted by Wheels Editor Mark Richardson on behalf of the Wheels editorial team, which includes designer Neil Cochrane and artist Raffi Anderian.

As well, Wheels' reviewer Jil McIntosh won the Volvo Award for Environmental Journalism, recognizing her story about the efforts made by Subaru to reduce waste at its Indiana manufacturing plant.

Wheels writer Mark Toljagic also won the Pirelli Tire Photography award, for an evocative photograph of a bridge in West Virginia.

Toljagic and McIntosh also placed second and third respectively in the Wakefield Castrol Awards that recognize excellence in journalistic writing, behind winner Russell Purcell of RPM magazine and CanadianDriver.com.
