I lose stuff. All the time. Like car keys. Attach a little radio frequency tag to the key chain, push a button on the SmartFind main unit and follow the buzzer. A friend of mine has two key-chain tags and two adhesive-backed tags for things like the TV remote control or cellphone ($60 U.S.). But the Brookstone website currently only shows a key-chain system for $49.95.

Rubber wrench

Ever had trouble getting that old oil filter off? A rubber strap wrench from Home Hardware will do it. $7.69 for a set of two.

Eliminator power inverter

The Eliminator (200 W) eliminates the need for separate DC/AC adapters for your cellphone, music player, computer, whatever. Plug this into the cigarette lighter socket, then use you regular home AC charger. Only necessary because so few car makers put AC sockets into their cars. $27.99 from Canadian Tire.

Cheap as dirt because I'd make it up myself. Space blanket. Pure water in foil pouches. High-protein energy bars. Candles. Waterproof matches. Flashlight with fresh batteries. Store it in a nice zippered tote bag.

One-shot tire inflator

Okay, I should keep her tire pressures correct myself, but this thing makes it easy. Attach to the valve stem. If the pressure matches the pre-set limit, an LED light glows – you're good to go. If not, attach the hose from the gas station air pump and let 'er rip. Stops automatically. Takes the fumbling and guesswork out of the process. $24.95 (U.S.)
