Insider Report: Who's who at the Rolex 24 at Daytona
The North American racing season opener is the Rolex 24 at Daytona, a historic 24 hour endurance race that has been running around the clock since 1966. More than just a “sports car” race, the Rolex 24 is the first big event of the year. In many ways, it is a throwback to the origins of racing, when drivers could and would compete in anything that had wheels. The driver line up includes talent from around the globe. While all of the Grand-Am regulars are here, so are many star drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar, recent F1 stars and more.
I am in Daytona covering the race for Wheels.ca, the first time I have ever made the trip to the event. My focus for the weekend will be on the Canadian drivers and teams in the field, along with the Canadian contingent in the Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge that kicks things off this afternoon.
For those of you who are following along at home, I will provide live coverage throughout the Rolex 24, which is also being broadcast live on Speed for much of the weekend. Keep an eye on George’s TV listings to see when the Continental Tire Series will be televised.
To make cheering for the Canucks in the field easier while watching the live broadcast, today’s Insider is a viewers guide of sorts to give you an idea of just who is in each car.
The online entry list tends to be somewhat fluid up until tomorrow, so if I have missed anyone, let me know in the comments section.
