York Regional Police have confirmed a meteor spotting via a dashboard camera on one of their cruisers.
The Meteor Physics Group at Western University said the meteor entered atmosphere around 4:17 p.m. Sunday and was 50 to 100 centimetres wide.
The force tweeted the video footage Monday morning.
“Thought we would jump on the band wagon. Here’s a glimpse of the #meteor as it flew over one of our cruisers,” the account said.
Professors commenting on the incident said the sighting is rare and can only be seen once every five to 10 years in the GTA.
It was first spotted in Peterborough.
