My first car, given to me by my Dad, was the God awful Leyland Marina. If not the worst it must be close.

I disagree with the author of this article when they print, that you can't answer the question of "What's the best car?"
It's a simple question that can be explained as such.
Ferrari is hands down the car maker or choice for any true red-blooded car enthusiast. With all the cars that they've designed in their storied history there is one that stands above the rest, and it is the - 1964 330 LM GTO.

Easy PEASY - question answered. Nuff Said

Key point is *expensive* and terrible. Terrible alone won't do, hence the Rolls Royce and the Ferarri. By this criteria the Aston Martin Lagonda or the Cadillac Cimmaron or Catera would do. VW Phaeton W12? VW Routan? Toyota Cavelier (yes, look it up)? Subaru SVX? Lincoln Blackwood? Ford Excursion?

Because I still don't understand staggered release dates across continents in this day of the Internet, I must inform you that this has already aired in England last month. The worst car was a Lexus SC430. And rightfully so. Lexus should have known better.

The Lada, Moskvitch, Trabant, even the dire Chevette at least didn't pretend to be much more than basic transportation. They were merely bad. Pretentious, overpriced, yet shoddy and unreliable cars like the Lincoln Continental, Cadillac Escalade, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, etc. are BAD. That's what makes them truly horrible.

I'm not sure any one manufacturer can own the title of making the worst car. Well, except maybe Jaguar, but seriously, who drives a Jag? My worst car ever? A '94 Tercel. Horrible little thing. A close second might be my '88 Corolla. 188,000 kms and I needed a new engine. Best worry free kms per dollar spent? A Ford Windstar. All 3 go against the accepted concept of what is a safe bet, and what should be crap. For me, I assume what I buy is going to need work eventually, and I've gotten tired of the cost to repair anything foreign. I can put all new brakes on my Chevy half ton cheaper than anyone driving any Toyota or Honda, so give me domestic any day.

It's probably some Eastern European vehicle produced during the cold war, but by their criteria, I'd go with the Ford Pinto. Not only was it ugly, underpowered and unreliable, it also had an annoying habit of exploding.

The mid-1960s Russian Moskvich has to be a strong contender. My girlfriend's father in England had one -- I think it was a 408 but it might have been a 412. Either way, he bought it because it was cheap and someone said he could use spares from a Mark I Cortina. This was a lie. It was like driving a tractor; truly agricultural performance and handling. The gearshift was like a pogo-stick protruding from the floor and about as precise. One of the most frightening driving experiences of my life was being behind the wheel of this aberration on the MI motorway, trying simultaneously to maintain highway speeds and lane discipline. The company's theme song must've been, "They call me the Wanderer..."

Hands down -- Pontiac Sunfire -- any year. Mine was a piece of junk from the minute I drove it off the lot and cost me a small fortune. On the other hand, I owned a Dodge Shadow for 15 years....it kept going, and going, and going....
