This is why drag cars have wheelie bars
What do you get when you put a blown big block in a ’32 Ford? The answer is a wickedly fast machine that is equally wickedly unstable thanks to a really short wheelbase. Aussie racer Steve Easton found out just how unstable when the drive wheels of his Deuce decided to hook up instead of spinning when he launched off the line a couple of weeks ago at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland, Australia.
Things happen pretty quickly in a car with this much juice, so by the time Easton got off the “gas”, the Ford’s nose was already pointed skyward. Fortunately, the front end dropped, rather than flipping over backwards. A proper set of wheelie bars might be a good idea for future trips down the strip!
