Jim, two things; 1) Erin Mills Parkway has a 70km/h speed limit (not 60), nit-picky, yes, but we're talking about attention to detail here. 2) The road lines are also stupid, the solid line separating the left lanes from the through lanes starts almost at the previous intersection - approx 200m before Eglinton. So anyone who looks for the road sign and then moves into the left turn lane is pulling an illegal maneuver by crossing the solid white lines. Poor planning on the Region of Peel's part. Streetview of the same: http://preview.tinyurl.com/bxpxbaz Now don't get me started on the programming of the traffic sensors that force you to stop beyond the line to trigger them, or the overabundance of signage on the Mississauga section of the 403.

By the time you get in your car you should know where you're going and how to get there. Check a map before heading out and familiarize yourself with the area you're going to and the route you need to take.

How about you look ahead at a map (physical or online) if travelling to/in an unknown area and find the (major) street and/or traffic light just before your desired roadway? In other words if going to Yonge & Queen (going Northbound) note that is it one light/intersection after Yonge & Richmond and go from there. Seems simple enough for me :)

Dixie Road is one of the worst in Mississauga - there are signs when you exit the QEW indicating the direction for Dixie Mall and Long Branch GO station, but no follow-up to tell you to make that awkward left onto Dixie Road South. There are plans in the works to completely overhaul this pitifully designed interchange, but until that happens better signage is a must!

In principle I agree with Jim...if this was 1990. But this is 2013 and virtually everyone on the road has (or has access to) a low-cost GPS for their vehicle. There is absolutely no need for further increase the tax burden to replace signage for a few "lost" drivers when we have even more urgent issues to deal with - such as crumbling infrastructure, massive government debt, etc.

Right on! The province gives advance notice on all highways and municipalities should be doing the same. Center median signs also do double-duty as crash barriers.

Agree completely with this I do.
Municipalities seem to think we are possessed with the Force to help us find street names.
The name signs themselves should be much larger as well.

While the traffic sign people are at it, please, oh please, ask to have the city enforce the existing bylaws re: VISIBLE street number signs on businesses and houses.

Or maybe if you planned ahead, read a roadmap, and took note of the intersections prior to the one you want, you would be prepared for your turn without having to read the sign from a half a km away. Just like we used to do in the olden days before laziness took over in the form of Doris of the Dashboard.
