New Honda Accord revealed
Images of the 2013 Honda Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe were unveiled on Wednesday as the Japanese automaker takes aim at the Ford Fusion, Inside Line reports.
Set for dealerships in the fall, Honda described the 2013 Accord as the “most sculpted Accord ever.”
Honda is joining the current trend of redesigned family sedans, the website said. When it unveiled the Honda Accord Coupe Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, it said the Accord would get a new “athletic styling direction.” It said the concept teased the design direction of the production version of the ninth-generation Accord.
Images of the new Accord depict a new grille and multiple styling lines on the hood and sides. Honda said the redesigned Accord features larger cabin space with a shortened exterior.
“Smart interior packaging allows for increased passenger and cargo space in both the sedan and coupe, while the overall exterior lengths are noticeably shortened, contributing to a sportier driving character and easier parking,” said Honda.
Honda said the new Accord would offer a choice of three different engines. The base will be a new 2.4-litre inline four with direct injection. A revised version of the current 3.5-litre V6 will also be available with improved power and higher mileage figures.
A plug-in hybrid will eventually join the lineup and feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder gas engine coupled to a 120kW electric motor, Inside Line reported.
Honda added optional LED daytime running lights, headlights and taillights would be offered on the 2013 Accord.
