NEW YORK, NY: Mercedes-AMG staged one North American and two World Premieres at the New York International Auto Show.
The new GLC63 Coupe joins the GLC63 sharing a hand-built 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 producing 469 hp and 479 lb/ft of torque with a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. The new GLC63 S Coupe gets a 503 hp and 516 lb/ft version of the V8 with a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds.
All GLC63 variants receive air spring suspension with adaptive adjustable shocks. They are also endowed with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution, a rear-axle limited-slip differential and a high-performance braking system.
The New AMG Speedshift nine-speed double clutch automatic transmission is standard offering extremely fast shift response times. A start-off wet clutch replaces a traditional torque converter in this new transmission, saving weight and optimizing the response to the driver’s accelerator pedal input.
The AMG Dynamic Select drive mode system offers Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual modes.
Besides this, there is the “M” button that lets the driver switch to manual mode with gears selected by paddles on the steering wheel.
And just to spice things up a bit, the GLC63 Coupe and GLC63 S Coupe have an additional Race mode where all engine, suspension and drivetrain functions are maximized for the highest performance.
Optionally available is the AMG Performance exhaust system, which allows the exhaust sound to be modulated by a press of a button.
For maximum grip the GLC63 and Coupe both come with a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the GLC63 S Coupe uses an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential.
Visually, the Panamericana grille found only on the AMG GT series is feature on all three GLC63 models.
Also on the Mercedes-AMG stand was the GT Concept shown at the recent Geneva Motor Show featuring a 805 hp hybrid which is expected to appear in production form at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
