Dodge has Ron Burgundy. Fiat has Charlie Sheen. And Subaru? Subaru has the Barkleys, which are paws-down the cutest vehicle hawkers you’ll see on television this year. (Videos, below.)
Subaru has introduced the canine family of four — headed by Auggie, a golden retriever from “a little town in Canada” — in its “Meet the Barkleys” campaign. The four 30-second spots (and website) follow the Subaru-loving brood as they deal with such typical family scenarios as teenage dating problems and Dad’s wandering eye.
The ads, from Carmichael Lynch and director Brian Lee Hughes of Skunk, “aren’t especially groundbreaking,” AdWeek notes in a feature on the charming campaign. “But they have a sort of low-key humour ” and the dogs — especially Sebastian, the baby of the family — “are straight-up adorable.”
The cast includes three purebred golden retrievers, including Auggie (Dad), Sadie (teen daughter) and Sebastian (the baby), and a golden lab by the name of Sadie (Mom).
Watch Subaru’s four video spots below and prepare for cute overload.
