This weekend, Bancroft, Ont., comes to life with the sights and sounds of the Rally of the Tall Pines. As the final round of the Canadian and North American Rally championships, Tall Pines is the most anticipated event on the rally calendar, along with possibly being Bancroft’s busiest weekend of the year.
On Friday afternoon and Saturday, readers can find me at the Wheels.ca RV at Rally Headquarters which is located at the Dungannon Rec Centre, just outside of Bancroft. Just look for the Wheels.ca banner! Our Rally Command Post RV is being provided by Canadream and Go RVing Canada.

To get all the schedule details and directions, visit the Rally of the Tall Pines website. While you are there, you can check out the iPhone and Android apps to make following the rally on your phone a breeze. Also, pick up tomorrow’s Toronto Star to see my interview with Alan Ockwell, who co-drives for Patrick Richard in the Subaru Canada entry.
Today’s Insider is a Who’s Who of the top competitors, with photos from the 2011 running of Tall Pines, shot by me, with the exception of Hardy Schmidtke, who wasn’t at Pines last year. That shot comes from Rally West.
Patrick Richard & Alan Ockwell
Antoine L’Estage & Nathalie Richard
“Crazy Leo” Urlichich and Carl Williamson
Hardy Schmidtke & John Hall
Max Riddle & Aaron Neumann
Special Mention: Nuno & Isabel Pereira
Nuno and Isabel may not be near the front of the pack in their classic 1977 Toyota Corolla, but their machine is by far my favourite car in the field. The rear wheel drive Corolla represents the history of the sport and watching Nuno hang the tail out on every corner is a thing of beauty!
