Insider Report: The mayor of Hinchtown on Strombo
Indy car racer James Hinchcliffe makes a pit stop on Strombo to talk about … well, you know.
Watch Red Bull F1 set new record for pit stop
If you have ever changed a flat tire, you will be able to appreciate the rather incredible feat in the video below. On lap 19 of the 2013 Malaysian GP, Mark Webber stopped in the Red Bull pit for four tires. The crew got him up in the air, four tires off, four tires on and back on the ground and on his way in just 2.05 seconds. The previous record of 2.31 seconds was set by McLaren in Germany last year when Jensen Button came in for tires.
Create your own Google Street View Hyperlapse
A few months ago I came across a really cool road trip time lapse sequence that I shared here in the Insider Report. Now, thanks to the folks who created Hyperlapse, you can create your own time lapse road trip video without even leaving your desk. The tool uses Google Street View to compile images of a route you select. I tried a route that took me from the Toronto Star building at 1 Yonge Street, up the DVP to the 401 and then back over to Yonge Street. To minimize server load, they have limited the trips to 60 frames, which can make one feel a bit ill while watching, but it’s still kinda cool. Create your own Hyperlapse here.
Five Goals for the Corvette C7 Stingray
As part of an ongoing series called the Faces of GM, Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion talks about the design goals that the Corvette team had in mind when they created the C7 Corvette. Their final vision was revealed to the public at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.
Travis Pastrana welcomes new team mate
Extreme sport superstar, NASCAR and rally driver Travis Pastrana has added a second car to his Pastrana Racing rallycross team, conveniently sponsored by Red Bull. How better to welcome a new driver to a team than to create a cool web video. Taking a scene from Days of Thunder, Pastrana and Bryce Menzies fire up their 2013 Dodge Dart Global Rallycross cars for a bit of fun at the DirtFish Rally School in Washington.
I know this is a bit of a stretch, but some readers might recall that I wrote an article last Summer in Wheels about testing tires in the rain. At the time, I stayed in a pretty neat resort called Salish Lodge, where the opening sequence of the hit TV series Twin Peaks was filmed. That hotel is also featured in the first part of this video.
