One of the craziest things I ever did as a cab driver was fighting with a passenger trying to stab me while driving down a country road. Fun job! Some of you really should try it. Taxi drivers keep vying with the police for Stats Can’s “Most Dangerous Job In Canada” title.

Not that I’ve seen taxi drivers do anything quite this bad, but I will make this generalization, drawn from many years of sharing the road with them: Taxi drivers drive like they’re the only ones on the road at any given time. Whatever they decide to do to get around, they consider it the responsibility of other drivers to stay clear of them. I’ve had cabbies do U-Turns right in front of me (not this close a call, though), they’ve cut me off countless times and entered the road from driveways and cross-streets with such short notice that I”ve had to slam the brakes. And I can’t count the number of times they’ve stopped somewhere in the middle of both lanes, without any prior indication, in order to pick up or drop off their fares.

At around 4am, a cab driver ran a red and in the process hit a pedestrian (granted the pedestrian was quite drunk).

I jumped in front of the cab, who slowed down for a momet and then kept going.

When the cab driver began to honk at me to get out of the way. I told him he just hit someone.

His response was “but I have a fare right now”.

I told him to get out of the car.

He then locked the back doors, an demanded that the patrons in the back seat pay before getting out.

They refused to pay, and were in shock that the driver hit someone.

When I told the driver that I was going to call the cops…he unlocked the back door let the patrons finally out….then took off.

I guess cabbies only care about their “fare”.

Taxi driver made a right turn from 2 lanes over without watching out for oncoming cars. He comes to a complete stop in the middle of the road and makes a sudden right turn. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him and the driver behind me had to swerve because this idiot decided to pull off some stupid move like that. They should have their licences taken away.

These taxi driver arseholes are a complete blight on the road. There’s a road near my house that’s a known speed trap, but logically as there are three schools on it. a taxi was barrelling along it at 70.

Thing is, cops use taxi drivers as informants and are always reluctant to haul these criminals off
