Insider Report heads to Texas

Published May 15, 2013

Leading up to the Spanish-American War in the late 1890′s, Theodore Roosevelt set up shop in the pub of the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Not sure what that means? Read about it here. I had to. Roosevelt rounded up all of his Rough Riders in this fine establishment, which still stands today, across the street from The Alamo. I am writing today’s Insider Report in this fine establishment, which was built in 1859. Ironically, their WiFi is outstanding!

So what does this have to do with cars? Well, I am here to visit the Continental Tire testing facility in nearby Uvalde, Texas. While you are reading this, I am doing a bit of high performance driving at the spot you will see in the video below.

Mud Boggin’ Texas style
How could I possibly have a Texas edition of the Insider Report without pickup trucks and rednecks? YouTube user MRMudbog comes to my rescue with some down and dirty mud bogging action from Nevada, Texas, just a couple of weeks ago. Plenty of hootin’ and hollerin’ and flying clumps of mud.

Watch a Corvette top 200 at the Texas Mile
Wheels.ca is an all Canadian publication, so I have to point out that the video below shows a Z06 Corvette hitting 325.28 km/h, but when it comes down to it, the double ton is a pretty impressive number. 200 Miles per hour. It is a magical number.

Lonestar Round Up Rod and Kustom Car Show, Austin Texas
Sadly I won’t be here in San Antonio long enough to visit any cruise events, but YouTube user spi360video happened upon the Lonestar Round Up Rod & Kustom Car Show in Austin recently. I really want to get my hands on a VW pickup like the one I screen captured in the pic above.

A lap of COTA with Bill Auberlen
As much as I love playing in the mud, road racing is where my passion lies. So to finish up the Texas edition of the Insider Report I offer you a lap of the incredible Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, with BMW hot shoe Bill Auberlen.
