Toronto-born but permanent ex-pat for almost 20 years. Can't believe this! It defies everything I know about bike paths in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria or even Ottawa! A bike path is either a completely separate track or a separate, narrow lane on the road itself. It's supposed to make it safer for cyclists without providing an unreasonable impediment to drivers. Was this Ford's idea?

I don't know where Toronto planners came up with this "single file" car and bike riding. Maybe in some places it's the only sensible option where there's simply no room for a bike and car to ride side by side, but they're planning road reconstructions where there is space like John Street and Front Street in front of Union Station for bike lanes and still forcing this problematic situation onto drivers and cyclists.

At last! Someone who posts this terrible idea of putting a downhill bike path into a motorized street (Pottery Rd, Toronto), in order to slow down the cars. What a harebrained idea is this? Clearly, somebody in the planning bureau has a deep seated hate for bike riders and wants them exterminated. And wants someone else to do the dirty work for them. It would have been easy to make a two lane bikepath out of the single bike path on the separated uphill bit. But that would have put children on bikes out of harm, and someone didn't want that, for sure.
