We were selling a used minivan at our dealership and as a matter of course we sent it out for an emissions test. Wouldn't you know it - the van failed! Turned out we needed to replace the air filter and perform a throttle body cleaning service to get the right air/fuel mixture and voila - it passed the second time around. Had the original owner maintained the vehicle to the manufacturer's specs it never would have failed, but being a lease return vehicle often times people do the bare minimum to keep the engine running and then return it and wash their hands.
