If I bought my car this year in February, and my car is an even number model year (2002), do I still have to do an emissions test next year?

It's a computer chip people with read and write options
Most places can clear the reading (this is writing to the chip)

This will take someone about 5 minute to figure out they can just plug a unit it and over write what there with a passing grade.

If you have direct access to the chip you could pull it and put one a new one in already programmed as a pass.

The check engine light is a good tool to advise the driver that a problem exists. Your service centre probably don't know how to diagnose the system properly. Yes, take your vehicle to a known and knowledgeable automotive technician.

Just drive the vehicle for a few days and the monitors should get ready. The only drawback is the time it takes. There might be a tool on the market that helps the emission monitors to reset much faster.

More "Make-Work" regulations for the service industry and more expenses for the population... Gotta stimulate the economy somehow... eh?

Do you know there are drive cycles that must be completed in order to clear/ pass a particular monitor... Who will post drive cycle times per manufactured vehicle so that EVERY CONSUMER has the opportunity to pass this new ( cash grab) emission test?.

DirveClean tests aren't a scam, they do however encourage owners to maintain their vehicles. We were selling a used minivan at our dealership and as a matter of course we sent it out for an emissions test. Wouldn't you know it - the van failed! Turned out we needed to replace the air filter and perform a throttle body cleaning service to get the right air/fuel mixture and voila - it passed the second time around. Had the original owner maintained the vehicle to the manufacturer's specs it never would have failed, but being a lease return vehicle often times people do the bare minimum to keep the engine running and then return it and wash their hands.

Check engine light is a scam. Check engine light came on recently and had service centre replace sensor = $250+. One week later, check engine light on again. Service centre says to bring it in again. I don't think so.

This is a total scam. I work in a car dealership and nothing fails anymore, not even older vehicles sold as is. the fact is that emission equipment has been upgraged since the inception of the drive clean program and it is no longer necessary.

The Ontario government should implement annual safety inspections and make the OBD-2 emission testing a part of it.
