Chevy Sprint and equivalent Pontiac and Suzuki of the late 80ties and early 90ties also had the 1.0L 3 cylinder engine. So this is not new. My dad and I also managed to go down to Florida and back in a Chevy Sprint, and it was fine. A bigger, more comfortable car is obviously nicer and better, but there are many people for whom this car is sufficient.

I know it's an A.Martin knockoff design, but Ford's latest appearance refreshs make their cars look like blowdryers lol.

I prefer 0-100 km/h in less than 6 sec. myself but size doesn't matter, it's what it does that counts.(ahem). My 2.5 L, %-cylinder Volvo wagon would smoke any V-8 Camaro from the 80's and early 90's, just like this Fiesta would probably beat my '85 CRX with its' (I think) 76 carbureted hp. Only thing is though, I can absolutely guarantee that that old CRX would've run circles around it handling-wise.

I agree 100% with pete. I used to drive a Fiesta with a 1.4l 88HP Zetec engine back home, and it could carry 5 adults and a little luggage for a long weekend at 140 km/h. I think north americans need big engines to compensate for small manhood ... er personality.

One liter engines are quite the norm in Europe for small cars. I had a 1988 Chevy (Really a Suzuki) Sprint with a 1L 3 cly engine (70hp) a long time ago, (then it rusted out!). There was nothing wrong with the performance as the weight of the car was really low at 1620lbs. It was only car I could push up my inclined (steep) driveway all by myself when the battery went one day. I even managed to get a speeding ticket on the 401 in it! It's all about power to weight. It's all relative. My current car (summer car) has 345hp and weighs in at 2845lbs. (Tickets are easier!)

One-cylinder! Wow, these Ford engineers are really up to something, or perhaps there is not enough proofreading for this article?

Can Rance explain to the readers why you need more horsepower to stand in gridlocked Toronto? If you drive in a city and the suburbs, this is ample transportation. Why do people feel the need to drive SUV's in a city? This is the way to go. Ok it's Ford, but others will come out with such vehicles as well.

No auto start/stop? On a model which is trying to maximize fuel efficiency? Why? If the Kia Rio can do it why can't Ford? Too costly? Make it an option then...an option that will pay for itself over the years. Why do we Canadians always get watered down versions of cars? Geeeeez!
