It’s legal to drive in reverse on a highway in an emergency. If you see a cop doing it put the vidcam down and get out of his/her way. The next time it might be your narcissistic entitled ass he’s racing to save.

There is no way the cop is going as fast as they said. First of all, a car can’t go that fast in reverse, its a simple case of gear ratios. Notice how fast the person shooting the video went by.

Hey Peter, that law is for STOPPED emergency vehicles When he’s travelling towards you at over 200kph (his speed plus yours), he is approaching at 55.5 meters per second, or put another way, if you notice him at 300 meters (since people don’t expect cops coming at them at 200kph, it could be less then 300m by the time you realize what’s going on), you would have 5.4 seconds to react to this cop. Just how are you supposed to change lanes safely in that time? Before you start calling other people typical layman, try looking in the mirror. Also, it DOES matter what could have happened. Many people have driven drunk and nothing happened, does that make it OK? Typical people who think they’re smarter then others… makes me sick.

I like the what if scenarios… they make no arguement or facts… just simply what if this happened… well it didnt do doesnt matter. so the fact is people are getting upset at a cop driving backwards… ooooh the humanity of it. What is this guy thinking? I bet he is thinking I can drive a car backwards and keep it straight… and btw the cars going past are not supposed to be near the cop… YOU are supposed to change lanes and get out of the way of HIM/ HER. So if your “wife” was in the car and got hit she would not be where she was supposed to be so it would be her own fault. Simple.
Hypothetical arguements dont work. Think of another way to get your point across than a what if… lol. typical layman thinking they know something.

Wow. A lot of “brave” people behind the safety of a monitor and keyboard today. Try to remember that there’s a real person on the other side of that screen, on BOTH sides of the argument.

As to the video, I believe that cops are probably better drivers than 99% of the drivers out there, and undeniably work in a stressful occupation.

Having said that, it’s hard for me to imagine what kind of crime he/she must have been racing to that would warrant that decision. Anything short of a rampaging murderer in the middle of a killing spree wouldn’t be worth it in my opinion. What if that cop’s decision distracted any drivers enough to cause an accident? What if it was your child or pregnant wife that got hurt in that accident? Would that be worth this cop getting to a crime scene? Are they the only cop around?

Yes, cops have it tough, and yes they make mistakes like all humans. But just because they’re cops doesn’t mean that they can or should get away with everything. Based on information given, this was an unjustifiably bad decision.

Stop complaining because I bet if someone followed you around all day you’d do quite a number of things incorrect, and have zero to little regard for those around you. Regular people complain way too much and think they know what its like to be a cop. But yet when something happens to them who did they need right away? a cop. People are for the most part morons who feel entitled to be able to do what they want, how they want, when they want. When they see something like this they think they are entitled to answers. Lucky Im not in charge. Id have a dictatorship that would make North Korea look like fun. Seriously the way people are now a days I think a major wake up call is needed for people to start respecting their government and those that protect us.

Well, Roger, don’t you sound smart and knowledgeable!! Are you a Trooper?? A race car driver? 99.9% of the time, there is NO need for cops to do illegal things that woiuld result in possible danger/harm to others, and for which I would receive a ticket or worse. Cops’ sense of entitlement borders on bullyboy thinking…give any idiot a uniform and a GUN, and suddenly they strut and swagger, pushing all out of their way! YUK. I repeat: there is NO excuse for this example of bad and dangerous driving. If ALL licensed drivers are prohibited from doing it, then cops, in particular, SHOULD NOT BE doing it. End of story.
