this is crap i have a 2002 f150 last emision test i did the check engine light was o and it passed with great numbers and now i have so far spent 500 and the check engine light is on how much more money will this government make me pay are taxes not enoght we the tax payers get shafted every time its time for new government

Have to say, I am very upset with this new testing process. Another Money Grab from our Gov’t to support our Automotive Bail-out. Reflecting back on the vehicle in my family, fathers, Chev Blazer, GMC pick-up, my Saturn LS2, Bonneville SSEi, and my 2009 Yukon XLT all have had the Engine Light on however, all passed well below the limits in the prior testing process. I now have to start either paying a small fortune to fix my last two GM vehicle or let them go. I have to continue the gouge on the Yukon but will have to this year let the SATURN go. Off to the junk yard very sad because it runs amazing but to fix the problem I must replace the computer for $600 in an old car and told this may not fix the problem. What I have learned from this process is to buy Jap crap Chink wrapped vehicle not North American cars. I am so sad after my entire life knowing nothing other than GM products.` If someone has suggestions surrounding engine lights one would love to hear! Please don’t reply it is my mechanic…lol GM Goodwrench…. YUK!

I have a 2003 PT Cruiser and have experienced the same situation with the engine light. One mechanic believed it to be the oxygen sensor – however, to date he has been unable to fix it or change it. Regardless, the advice has been the same: ‘don’t worry about it’ and the car continues to run fine. But now we have to consider replacing a perfectly good car because we can’t find a mechanic to fix something that has not caused us any problems…cash grab? I would say so.

i wonder if guys with high flow cats who use a non-fouler to keep the O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream will pass? Their emissions would be much worse becuse of the performance cat, but there would be no check engine light.

this is another way for those drive clean facilities to charge whatever they want and for the government to stifle every last ounce of money from hard working people… it’s the government’s fault for putting Ontario into a huge deficit the tax payers are there to bail them out. These politician’s wallets and pensions are getting fatter and the poor tax payers monies are getting thinner each year.

Our 2003 PT Cruiser is another car that’s had the “check engine” light on for years without our mechanic being able to find anything wrong with it. We do all the regular maintenance and fix what needs to be fixed when it needs to be fixed, and still the “check engine” light remains. If not even the mechanic can figure it out why it’s on, then what? We’re not rich, which is why we had to settle for a used ride to begin with, so how much are we supposed to sink into something that even our mechanic says “not to worry about”? I’m not sure how this can be seen as anything but a cash grab aimed squarely at those Ontarians who aren’t wealthy enough to purchase a brand-new vehicle every three to four years.

I have been told that, in many cases, the “check engine” light comes on at predetermined intervals to remind the driver to get a tune-up (remember those?). On my Altima, I can find out if there really is a problem without booking a costly service call; but I can’t do that on y wife’s Rogue. These warning lights come on far too frequently, and desensitize drivers to real problems that actually do require attention.

My partner and I both have cars that have the engine light on. We have both spent 100s and 100s of dollars investigating the cause with no results. This is a very common problem. This is the biggest friggin stupid thing this government has done and it is REALLY going to hurt people who are already financially hurting. Unbelievable!

That is simply no true, I just had a drive clean on Friday, and my wngine light has been on for 4 years, and I was tested under the new guidlines my mechanic told me that was not necessarily the case. I passed with flying colors and my vehicle is 2003. This is nothing more than an other opportunity to grab money from poop working people.
