Jaguar is taking a page out of Justin Timberlake’s book and bringing sexy back with its first sports car in nearly 40 years.
The F-Type convertible, designed by former Aston Martin chief designer Ian Callum, the F-Type on display stands out as one of the more unique sports cars available on the luxury market.
“We wanted to create something more aggressive,” said Alek Ackerman, a salesman with Jag/Land Rover in Thornhill.
With a sleek, simple interior, it’s not about gizmos and gadgets — for Ackerman, it’s about the engine. And with nearly 500 HP available in the higher end F-Type V8 S, it can go from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
“It’s a very sexy look with this car,” he said. “What we want to do with this is create something that is more of a halo car. We wanted people to think Jaguar when they say it.”
The vehicle will be very limited in Canada, Ackerman said, with an expected availability of about 15 cars across the country.
“It’s a very special car,” he said. “Jaguar is really doing some great things these days and it’s an exciting time for us.”
The fourth-generation Range Rover is also on display, a luxury SUV for the high roller who might want to take it on the less-than-travelled back roads of Canada’s vast terrain.
The car is loaded with features like you’d find in first class on an airplane. With two mini-fridges, a 28-speaker stereo system (there are speakers built into the map lights in the back seat) and HD monitors built into the head rests, it’s the full, luxury experience.
And, ironically, the car is more like an airplane than one would’ve thought — not just for the airplane-style, fully reclining massage seats.
“It’s made of aluminum, the entire car,” said Ackerman. “We took two sheets of aluminum and put a bonding agent in between. It made it a lot stronger than the last version and we riveted the vehicle over 1,200 times. It’s the strongest SUV out there.”
It’s the perfect combination of luxury and capability, said Ackerman — and with a nearly 24-month waiting list in the United States for car owners to get their hands on it, the product speaks for itself.
Jaguar and Land Rover are located in the south building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
