Just doesent make sense. 5 best winter cars for around 5 thousand dollars should not be small unsafe compact cars. For $5000 you can do a lot better then some beater sunfire especially in winter driving. Ford escape AWD would be better. Nissan pathfinder for around 3000 would be better. Crown victoria and chevy impala would be better. Also a lot safer and better in snowy conditions. Especially if you suffer from "chionophobia"

It's not just that "Huh" the fact of the matter is that as yet to date have I seen 1 single Wheels writer that has any REAL experience in the auto industry. I mean they have NO past ASE certifications, have baby smooth hands and wouldn't know the diff between a 13MM SOCKET AND A 1/2" SOCKET being a same fit. It's mind boggling and insulting at the same time. They don't seem to be able to hold a candle in the wind of people with real true experience.

$5000 for a "beater"? and, none of these vehicles are 4 wheel drive. What's the point.?
Better spend the money on a better car for all year or less on an older better car for the winter.

Are you kidding? This is Canada we are talking about, not Florida. Out here winter is generally around for 7 months a year. And your solution is that folks should use their "regular" ride for 5 months and a "beater" for remaining 7 months!!! If someone has to do so they need to question their "regular" buy in the first place.

I fail to understand the logic of spending a ton of money on a summer car, drive it for 6 months, park it and then spend the next 6 months driving a crappy beater. I'd rather drive my nice car all year round and when it wears out, I'll get a new one.
