In the heat of battle, racing drivers often get what we call the red mist. They get so caught up in passing someone that they throw all caution to the wind and put themselves in a bit of a predicament. That appears to have been the case for Ryan Ockey last weekend during the Ferrari Challenge race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race was part of Ferrari Racing Days and it seems that Ockey might have neglected to apply the binders in his bid to pass another competitor. The resulting crash is more than a little bit scary for the driver, not to mention photographer Jim Hunter, who can be seen scrambling to get out of harms way, just a few metres down the hill from point of impact.
Here is another view of the incident, from across the track.
