I agree that signage (particularly, placement) is absolutely dismal. The other problem is that street names are frequently different on opposite sides of a road, although they are aligned.

With drivers who do this sort of thing, I make a mental note of the plate and time and area and then go online when I’m at a PC/Apple and register a complaint with Metro Police. From my understanding a officer looks at the complaint and if enough are logged the owner of the vehicle is paid a visit. http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/recordsmanagement/crimereporting.php is the site, read and agree/disagree and the bottom right is traffic reporting. I’ve only used it twice but it was because of a similar situation as Mr. Laws where a driver while texting cut me off causing me to emergency brake and nearly getting rear ended by the person behind me.

The article states a newer model Honda Accord.

Honda hasn’t built the Accord in Ontario since 1989.

Don’t worry about driving a BMW.
It’s the Infiniti drivers that are the self righteous, I own the road airheads.
(Don’t tell them that it’s really a Nissan)

With reference to Ian writing that the Accord driver’s parents did not teach him proper driving etiquette, might I suggest that the Accord driver’s father is the BMW driver from Ian’s initial writing. I understand from the initial article that the BMW make was called out for the sole purpose of the driver potentially reading and recognizing his nasty ways and turning himself in. If this hasn’t happened yet, I suggest that we all keep our eyes open for a family with an Accord and a couple of BMWs on the driveway.

Considering most distracted drivers mimic the classic drunk driver symthoms: Drifing Lanes, Failure to Signal, Driving Too slow, Stopping Way before & Way after the White Line at stop lights etc. They (distracted drivers)have on the OPP patroled roads, as the end of Aug 2012 killed 41 vs 23 people from alcohol related fatalities. It should & hopefully will be criminal soon! MADD encourages you to phone in IMPAIRED DRIVERS! Phone in what you Seen, let the Police figure out the root cause of the impairment! Pretty sure you couldn’t tell without seeing the driver, an impaired by media vs an impaired by alcohol driver by watching from the distance. 50% of BC’s road deaths are distracted! Criminal Enough!

Actually, the answer to why is quite simple. It has been my experience in life that most people fall into large categories. Stupid/clueless is one such catergory, and self-centered/self-entitled would be another, just to name a couple of the “less than ideal” groupings.

The reality is that it is possible to avoid these people in your day-to-day activities, but only until you are forced to share a common space. A roadway, for instance, would be an example of a common space where it is extremely difficult if not impossible to avoid dealing with the clueless and/or self-entitled among our society. In such common spaces, the decisions of such persons can impact on you, regardless of how responsible you happen to be.

In my view, elected officials make it to easy for people to get a driver’s licence. Of course, this comes down to the elected official’s own self-interest outweighing the public interest (i.e., it’s better for elected officials to mandate easy driver’s tests and allow most people to get a licence, no matter how poor a driver, rather than risk losing a vote on a public policy decision that has a much higher testing standard that would limit the number of people who can drive a vehicle on public roads). Self-interest – need that vote; not – hm, lets get these morons off the road. Unless of course, someone gets killed and then there is a big show about it.

Did you even read this or did the letters BMW just jump out at you. It was a Honda Accord, likely made right here in Ontario
BTW I drive a german car and will admit to seeing lot’s of bonehead moves by fellow german car drivers (living around the corner from the BMW dealership likely increases the number i see, I was almost run down by one last week running a red and yapping on the phone

@KD – Calling 911 for a NON-emergency IS a crime. If you really feel the jerk in the story should have the police called on him then do it. I am not saying don’t call police. I am saying don’t call 911! Call the police non-emergency line. And definitely don’t lie to the police about what the guy did. Lying to the police is also a crime. Seriously, what is wrong with you people?!

I had a thought. Wouldn’t it be great if we could send a message to arrogant/ dangerous drivers by posting an email to their license plate number through the license bureau. The emails would have no effect in law but might make people think twice if they knew how their behavior affected others.
