Meet Siouxie. She’s a real Sharpie, and we mean that literally. This ’93 Nissan Skyline GTR is a custom car whose entire surface has been inked with Sharpie markers by Mississauga graphic artist Gil Montes. Montes says an Oakville client commissioned the car a few years ago and the project was a long and remarkable one, spanning three months and 90 hours of “learning experiences.”
“Surprisingly,” Montes says, “this is an actual fad around the world, so I wasn’t the first to do this.”
He started by lightly water sanding the car’s entire surface, leaving it just rough enough that the marker would stay on.
After that, the drawing began. Everything was done freehand with black Sharpie brand markers, with designs mostly made up on the spot. Then came three layers of clear-coating to laminate and preserve the artwork, and voila: Siouxie, the Sharpiest car on the block.
