The Car: 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe
The Owners: Gary and Susan Carson, Whitby, On.
The Story: The Carson’s Ford Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe (affectionately nicknamed Frankie ) has crossed the country and had three owners in her 40 years. Built as an ordered ca in Oakville in 1962, she was delivered to her first owner near Hinton, Alberta.
She spent 25 happy years there before moving on to a collector in Green Valley, Alberta, where she underwent a restoration and got a new, high performance 289 V8 and C4 automatic transmission.
Twelve years later, a broker bought Frankie and brought her to Toronto.
That’s when Susan and Gary Carson first laid eyes on her and were instantly smitten.
“Within a couple of hours she was ours,” Gary says, “and we’ve had 10 years of happy cruising since that date.”
Cruising is what Frankie was made for, as far as the Carsons are concerned.
The threesome enjoy all the local cruises in Whitby and the Durham Region, and even cruised as far as Dearborn, Mich., for the Fairlane Nationals four years ago. It was worth the drive, Gary says.
“We were amazed to be part of several hundred Fairlanes in a three-day show, and we placed second in our class!”
