OPP and TPS are ALWAYS under that overpass for HOV enforcement NOT FOR SPEEDING, it's easy to pick off single-drivers in the HOV lane, when they're forced to slow down to negotiate that turn

they're also there for cell-phone/texting and seat-belt infractions

personally in my opinion, those are absolutely amazing places for enforcement, because unsuspecting drivers will get screwed

The reason for the ramp speeds being lower is to help motorists from tipping their vehicles over and crashing them. This is evidenced quite often by the truck rollovers at the ramps. There are some drivers that disobey the speeds because they consider themselves to know better, and they quite often hit the concrete barriers, damage their vehicles and keep on going. They save a 1/2 a second and spend thousands of dollars in repair and insurance claims. Doh!

"ramp speed is an “advisory limit” only. It’s a good idea to follow it, particularly in bad weather or if loaded". Shouldn't you let someone else drive if you're "loaded". Jeeze, eh?

Although most on-ramps are designed with a head twisting circular shape that mimics a circus ride, they can be maneuvered properly using basic road driving skills. I am surprised not more time is taken on this highway feature with driver training schools.
An answer to the question posed ........note the posted speed limit, it doesn't say MAXIMUM on it. Yellow signs mark and advisory only.

As the writer said, usually, the officer is usually stopped on the (VERY WIDE) right shoulder in the HOV ramp to 401W to catch HOV violations. I use that ramp regularly, and they would catch quite a few violators if they stopped there daily during afternoon rush hour. The patrol car is usually highly visible from a distance and not hidden away, so no excuse to say they are parked dangerously or hidden away. If anything, that's the safest place on the HOV to stop a car. Regardless of the recommended speed, when a police car is stopped on the shoulder, you're supposed to reduce your speed. And as for the speed limit, as the writer indicated, yellow and black signs are recommended speeds, but "the law is black and white".

Go on to google maps to this tunnel and you can see 2 or 3 OPP cars waiting...just as the person stated in the original question.

The curvature on that underpass is dangerous to begin with that it's impossible to take that underpass at the posted 100kmh limit. I think that a 40kmh REAL (instead of yellow/recommended) speed limit might actually make sense, however frustrating it is to dive in there and have to slow down.

Whatever the law says, people better slow down on that particular ramp. I know it well. A few years ago, police found an empty pickup truck on the 401 west bound Leslie St. exit ramp and no sight of the driver. It took a few days to discover the body of the missing driver behind the guardrail of that HOV ramp. In the middle of the night, he drove into the ramp too fast, lost control and side swiped the guardrail. He was ejected out the driver side window and fell behind the guardrail. The truck kept going and finally stopped near Leslie.
If people smack their car in the ramp and stop there, next cars flying through are going to start a big pile up.

This is the dippiest rationalization I have ever. It's okay for the police to park in a dangerous location if they are ticketing motorists for seatbelt or HOV lane offenses.
