The car: 1993 XJS Jaguar Convertible
The owners: Gerald and Debbi Harper, Abbotsford, B.C.
The story: Gerald Harper looked for his classic Jaguar for more than 20 years, from California to Hawaii to Arizona, but finally found it just minutes from his home in Abbotsford, B.C.
“When I saw this car, I knew she was it. Unfortunately someone else did, too, and had first dibbs on the car,” Gerald recalls.
“I tried to forget the Jag but, four months later, the owner changed her mind, decided to sell, and the car was in my garage a day later.”
The classic convertible boasts a six-cylinder, 250-horsepower engine, an early-’90s mobile phone on the dashboard, and a five-disc CD player hidden in the trunk.
“We drive the Jag whenever we get the chance, although it does rain the odd time in the Vancouver area,” says Gerald.
When that happens, he and his wife, Debbi, go skydiving out of their single-engine Porter airplane.
But with the rainy season over in B.C., they are looking forward to getting the Jag out of the garage and back on the road.
“There is nothing better than driving through the mountains with the top down,” Gerald says.
