I guess your own reply speaks for itself Ian, you spend your whole response tooting your own horn about your credentials and how good you are again. Why would I apologise to anyone, I was merely making a comment as the section is titled 'comments'? You somehow assume I am attacking you, I am merely stating that you are not always correct like you tell everyone you are. There are always two sides to a story. And why are you asking me to shut up. because I do not agree with you, there is free speech in Canada I believe? To make it quite clear I would never consider taking lessons from you, I have learned from your peers, but I am not and never have proclaimed to be an expert, I am merely commenting on an article. It is great to live in a country where one can do that.

To George, What has crawled up your tailpipe? You sound quite bitter. To answer some of your questions, maybe being designated the "Better Driving Expert" by the automotive experts at Wheels and other publications along with being asked by the MTO to be a consultant on driver training not to mention my many years of running advanced driver training for GM, Volvo, MTO, MOE, MNR to name several corporations, makes me a driving expert. On top of that there would be my many championships in auto racing that speak for themselves. So I do not need to proclaim myself as an expert. I can put you in contact with thousands of drivers who will tell you they are better drivers because they took our course. I have never intimidated a doctor. That claim is outlandish. I also do not decide at what age anyone should stop driving. Maybe you should reread this article as it is clear you did not understand it. I would bet you have never taken advanced driver training judging by your lack of knowledge. I will offer you a FREE course with us. If we do not improve your driving knowledge, I will give you the course for FREE and apologise to all Wheels readers. When we do improve your driving skills, you apologise to all Wheels readers and pay double for the course. How does that sound? Kind of putting your money where your mouth is. I'll put up or shut up. Will you?

Interesting article, it is bizarre how Mr. Law keeps telling us about his '20 odd years of advanced driver training and auto racing' and his ' years of driver training and competition encounters', sort of like boosting your own ego in print, maybe everyone that reads the article will believe it. Just because you proclaim yourself to be a driver trainer or have driven a race car does not make you a good driver on the road, nor should it allow you to judge others by sending in letters to their doctors intimidating them to take peoples drivers licences away. This is setting a strong precedant. You want to get after the government to have a more stringent driver training system put in place, that is self serving to promote your own business is it not Mr. Law?.
We have many good drivers on the roads, not all went through Mr. Law's course (thank goodness) but we all must co-operate and share the road and abide by the rules the goverment sets out for us. As to what age should we stop driving, I do not believe that decision is up to you Mr. Law.

All you are going to get is pushback from seniors claiming they are an a fixed income and can't afford to retrain or pay for a test and the gutless provincial government (both of them) will fold because the senior vote is huge. This type of story keeps coming back like a cheap relative every year or so. It's never going to happen so stop wasting space and time with this.

I am 70 years young and driving since 1965. In my opinion, anyone deemed to be at fault in a car accident should be automatically re-tested.

I don't believe age is a factor when driving. The only criteria to be considered is ability so maybe testing of those advanced in years would be more appropriate than a limit based on age.

I having been watching re-runs of Canada’s Worst Driver and come to two conclusions.
1)	The bad drivers are not all seniors.
2)	We need to hold our licensing system much more accountable. Who issued these people their license? One person even admitted to having paid the tester to pass her!

We give out licenses far too easily.
We need to demand hands on driver training for accident avoidance, skid control, driving at night, in the rain, in the winter, 400 series hwy driving, city driving, country road driving. Applicants need to demonstrate maturity (not just age), an understanding of the mechanics of the car, the laws of physics, the rules and signs of the road, driving courtesy and common sense.

I would expect that, at a minimum, 10-20% of current drivers would be removed from the system and we would all be safer as a result.
This will not happen of course because as a society, we recognize that urban sprawl and the lack of a modern public transit system means that anyone denied a driver’s license is effectively denied a job.

At the age when your reflexes and attention span are diminished; be that
20 years old or 80 years old makes no difference in safe diriving.

One of the better suggestions that has been made is that of instituting a program of graduated de-licensing similar to the current graduated, but in reverse. That way, people who are unsafe for high speed highways, but safe on local roads could still drive with limitations on the type of road. Likewise those with night vision problems could also have a restricted license.

The iDAPT Research Centre at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute will soon start research into this to identify the kinds of conditions that would match various restricted licenses in a graduated de-licensing program.

P.S. To remove any suspicion of discrimination, we should be re-tested every time our licence comes up for renewal, at our expense. I would gladly pay if I knew it got a lot of bad drivers off the road. Same for vehicle inspections. All motor vehicle should be inspected yearly, with no provisional passes. Get the bad drivers and bad vehicles off the road, clear up space and make it safer for everyone else.
