Well, you'll read all about it in next week's section but the rally ended rather abruptly for Kees Nierop and I when we crashed spectacularly in the middle of the Gobi desert.
We'd just passed a checkpoint and were driving across an open plain when we crested a hill and the ground dropped away sharply. The front end of the car dug in and it flipped end-over-end three times, eventually coming to rest on the passenger side. The engine landed several metres from the car, both the front and rear were destroyed and there was debris everywhere.
The good news is that Porsche's safety cage, six-point harnesses and racing seats did their jobs, as did our crash helmets. We both walked away with no injuries, save for a few cuts and bruises.
