The two General Motors car plants in Oshawa which face a massive overhaul are the most productive vehicle assembly operations in North America.
The U.S.-based Harbour Report said today that the No.2 car plant topped the annual ranking while the adjacent No.1 operation finished second among more than 80 facilities across the continent.

It took 15.68 labour hours to build the Pontiac Allure, Grand Prix and LaCrosse mid-size models at the No.2 plant and 16.34 hours to assemble the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo at the No.1 operation last year.
GM is closing the No.2 plant at the end of this year and transferring output to the No.1 operation so construction of a new flexible manufacturing complex can continue. The company plans to open the new operation in late 2008.
Four GM plants finished in the top 10 most productive operations on the continent. The CAMI Automotive plant in Ingersoll and Honda’s complex in Alliston also were among the top 10.
