Arctic trek called off

WHEELS EDITOR

MILTON, ONT.—Eh? Milton? If I’m driving to Yellowknife, shouldn’t I be in Wawa by now, or at least Sault Ste. Marie?

Sadly, no. My road trip to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut that should have begun Sunday, is cancelled. It’s no fault of the Chevy Tahoe 2-mode hybrid, but my own, called off for medical reasons.

On Thursday, after production of the pre-printed Wheels section, I developed a sudden and so-far-unexplained blood clot in my leg. I can barely walk, and to drive for long periods on my own far from medical attention would be madness.

My doctor has forbidden me to go anywhere for a while, let alone the frozen diamond mine roads of the Canadian Arctic, so the trip’s off. The road won’t stay frozen for much longer.

But keep reading Wheels and wheels.ca, and watch this space in a year’s time when I hope to be trying again!
