North Toronto native Colin Fraser has been appointed competition cirector of the main U.S. professional motorcycle racing series, AMA Superbike.
For the last 18 months, Fraser's been running the Parts Canada and U.S.-based Moto ST series. Now that Daytona Motorsports Group has bought all the AMA pro racing properties, he's been vaulted into the hottest motorcycle racing seat.
"I was already in the job at Daytona, and not as an observer. I and a couple of my staff – ironically, all Canadians – were involved in most of the activities and decisions there," Fraser said. "And from the next race at Barber (Motorsports Park) on, I'll be the guy on the hot seat."
Thirty years ago, he was working at Black's Cameras, hanging out at the track, and trying to sell stories about same to an editor at Cycle Canada magazine, namely me, as it happens.
Later he joined Shannonville Motorsport Park, then owned by Jack Boxstrom. Between them they created the RACE series – still going strong. Fraser then created the Parts Canada Superbike series, arguably one of the most solid superbike series on the planet.
