Originally revealed at the Shanghai auto show last April, General Motors's Buick Riviera concept car made its North American debut in Detroit without any fanfare.
But with a relatively long hood and virtually no rear deck, the gull-winged 2+2 coupe is beautifully proportioned. And while it is more futuristic than retro in design, it clearly pays homage to the styling of the '60s-era Rivieras that were styling icons of my youth.
It's a practical choice, too. With a hybrid powertrain system scheduled for production this year, it should provide a worry-free trip home, with no concerns about finding some unobtainable fuel to make the journey.
