After four days of testing, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada yesterday announced category winners for 2009 Canadian car of the year and utility vehicle of the year.
Unlike some previous years, no single auto manufacturer stood out. Only BMW and Audi each won two awards.
As well, no single vehicle this year stood apart enough to be awarded the most coveted new vehicle prize, as voted by 80 members of AJAC who gathered this week at Niagara Airport to test the 56 new vehicles under consideration.
The BMX X6 was initially named prestige car of the year, but an administrative error in reporting its cargo capacity meant the title was given later in the day to the two Mercedes in the category.
The Dodge Ram was chosen over the Ford F-150 as best pickup.
AJAC's car of the year and utility vehicle of the year will be announced at the Toronto Auto Show in February.
